O’Melveny Honored With “2021 Impact in the Courts Award” By National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild

WASHINGTON D.C.—December 9, 2021—The National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild (NIPNLG) has honored O’Melveny with its 2021 “Impact in the Courts Award,” part of their 2021 “Impact Awards,” which recognize recipients for their “outstanding contributions in the courts, art, academia, law and advocacy.”
The firm was recognized for its significant contributions to the immigrant justice movement, leadership in pro bono efforts, and work in United States v. Palomar-Santiago, a Supreme Court case in which O’Melveny represented Refugio Palomar-Santiago, a Mexican national who was charged with illegally reentering the United States after being previously removed.
Brad Garcia, a partner in O’Melveny’s Supreme Court & Appellate Practice Group, accepted the award on behalf of the firm at NIPNLG’s 50th anniversary ceremony, which celebrated the organization’s half century of advancing the rights of immigrants, noncitizens and those most impacted by government abuse and misconduct, or facing summary removal.

The National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild, established in 1971, is a non-profit organization that provides assistance and support to immigrant organizations made up of legal practitioners and advocates seeking to advance the rights of noncitizens. As a national organization of lawyers and advocates, the NIPNLG works to protect the rights of all people and promote the equality of treatment in immigration law, the criminal justice system, and immigration policy.
