O’Melveny Once Again Certified by Women in Law Empowerment Forum

July 16, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK—July 16, 2021—O’Melveny has again achieved Gold Standard Certification by the Women in Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF). This marks the fifth year in a row the firm has earned this certification, reflecting O’Melveny’s ongoing commitment to advancing women lawyers.

WILEF, which supports women at the nation’s largest law firms and corporate law departments, grants Gold Standard status to major firms that meet criteria concerning the number of women among equity partners, in firm leadership positions, and in the ranks of their most highly compensated partners. Certification became more competitive this year when the organization increased these benchmark figures.

O’Melveny earned its Gold Standard Certification for achieving the following criteria:

  • 25% of equity partners or, alternatively, 40% of the attorneys becoming equity partners are women
  • 10% of women equity partners are women of color or 4% of women equity partners are LGBT
  • 20% of firm and U.S. branch office heads are women
  • 25% of the firm’s compensation committee or its equivalent are women

“We are proud to again be recognized by WILEF, especially at a time when the organization has raised the bar for certification,” said Mary Ellen Connerty, O’Melveny’s Director of Diversity and Engagement. “We share WILEF’s commitment to improving gender diversity in the legal industry, particularly in the leadership ranks, and we will keep our focus on ensuring that O’Melveny is a firm where all our people can thrive and grow.”

O’Melveny is making progress in closing the gender and diversity gap at its highest levels. Today, women, people of color, and LGBTQ attorneys represent: 50 percent of department heads and more than 70 percent of US Office managing partners. Additionally, some 50 percent of O’Melveny’s 2021 partner class were women or people of color—making it the sixth straight year that the incoming class was at least 50 percent diverse.
