O’Melveny Repeats as a Top Firm in American Lawyer’s Midlevel Associates Survey

August 28, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORKAugust 28, 2018For the third straight year, O’Melveny has been ranked second in the nation on The American Lawyer’s annual Midlevel Associates Survey.

Today’s results also mark the sixth consecutive year that O’Melveny has placed among the top 10 on this survey of more than 100 law firms.

Each year, AmLaw surveys third-, fourth-, and fifth-year associates on several aspects of job satisfaction, including compensation and benefits, training and guidance, interaction with partners and other associates, the interest and satisfaction level of the work, the firm’s policy on billable hours, and management’s openness about firm strategies and partnership chances.

On the question of technology, O’Melveny ranked #1. Associates were asked to rate their firms on a scale of one to five in four tech-related categories: firm-provided technology, firm-provided technology training, technology support, and use of technology on behalf of clients. Overall rankings reflect the sum of those scores. As The American Lawyer observed, “there is a strong correlation between the top-ranking law firms in the technology section of our Midlevel Associates Survey and the top-ranking firms in the overall survey.”

The results follow other recent recognitions for O’Melveny’s distinct firm culture. Last month, O’Melveny ranked among the top 10 firms on The American Lawyer’s prestigious A-List, which takes a holistic view of law firms by considering revenue per lawyer, pro bono, racial diversity, percentage of female equity partners, and associate satisfaction scores (this was the seventh consecutive year that the firm was included on the A-List). In June, O’Melveny topped Vault’s “Best Law Firms to Work For” rankings and was honored for having the “Best Summer Associate Program.” O’Melveny was also named one of the “Best Law Firms for Women” for the sixth consecutive year by Working Mother magazine for employing best policies and practices to retain and promote women lawyers.

Contributing to the satisfaction of O’Melveny’s lawyers is the important, high-stakes work the firm handles. In recent months, O’Melveny has made headlines for achieving wins on behalf of AT&T/Time Warner in the federal government’s challenge to their blockbuster merger and for China Agritech in a unanimous US Supreme Court decision with far-reaching implications for class actions. The firm’s corporate attorneys recently helped close a deal for the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, and the restructuring group is at the forefront of Puerto Rico’s efforts to emerge from its debt crisis.

“O’Melveny is committed to offering our lawyers and staff exceptional training and experience, showcasing their talents on important matters, and doing it all in the best possible work environment,” said Bradley J. Butwin, Chair of O’Melveny. “We aim to make this firm a place where all members of our vibrant and diverse workforce can contribute and thrive—and we are very pleased that our efforts are being recognized.”
