O’Melveny Welcomes Back Partner Greg Jacob Following White House ServiceApril 08, 2021
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC—April 8, 2021—O’Melveny today announced that former partner Greg Jacob will rejoin the firm in May, marking his return to private practice after a highly consequential year as Counsel to Vice President Pence.
Jacob, who was a partner in O’Melveny’s award-winning ERISA Litigation and Labor & Employment practices from 2012 to 2020, left the firm to serve as Counsel to Vice President Pence and Deputy Assistant to the President, a role he held until January 20 of this year. Jacob advised the White House Coronavirus Task Force concerning the Defense Production Act and other legal issues related to bolstering the domestic supply chain, and following the 2020 election, directly advised the Vice President on the scope of his constitutionally prescribed duty to preside over the counting of Electoral College votes.
Before joining O'Melveny, Jacob served in several high-profile positions of increasing responsibility in the administration of President George W. Bush, including at the White House, Department of Justice, and Department of Labor. For his final posting in the Bush Administration, Jacob was appointed by the President and confirmed as Solicitor of Labor, the third-ranking official in the Department of Labor. In this position, he managed the department’s most important litigation under more than 180 federal labor and employment laws.
Throughout his career in private practice, Jacob has represented financial services companies including banks, investment managers, health care payers, and insurers, as well as other employers, in class action and other litigation concerning ERISA and other labor and employment matters. As a former Solicitor of Labor, Jacob has extensive knowledge on a wide variety of labor and employment issues including ERISA, FLSA, OFCCP, and whistleblower law. He regularly litigates in federal courts throughout the country, defends clients against Department of Labor investigations, and provides counseling to plans and plan sponsors. A former editor for the ERISA Litigation Reporter, he will resume that responsibility. He is also a frequent speaker and writer on hot topics in ERISA litigation.
“We’re delighted to welcome Greg back to the firm,” said O’Melveny chair Bradley J. Butwin. “We applaud him for his government service at the highest level and know that our clients will benefit from his keen insight into this fast-changing and complex area of the law.”
"After an eventful year of public service, I am delighted to be returning home to O'Melveny,” said Jacob. “There is no better place to practice law, and I look forward to bringing my new experience to bear in helping clients solve their most complex problems."
O’Melveny’s ERISA Litigation and Labor & Employment teams help clients confront the full range of issues they encounter as employers.
