Trial Lawyer Nexus Sea Specializes in Complex Litigation and Dispute Resolution

NEW YORK—March 7, 2022—O’Melveny announced today that experienced litigator and trial lawyer Nexus Sea has joined the firm as a partner in New York. He will serve in the firm’s Product Liability & Mass Torts practice group.

Sea joins O’Melveny from McDermott Will & Emery, where he was a partner representing pharmaceutical and medical-device manufacturers, financial institutions, and other Fortune 500 companies in complex commercial litigation and product-liability matters in state and federal courts.

Sea has advised clients in a broad range of industries, including life sciences, sports, technology, financial services, and manufacturing. He was a member of the national counsel team that defended a global consumer products manufacturer against thousands of injury claims in various states across the country. Recently, he has focused on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on product-liability law.

“We’re delighted to welcome Nexus aboard,” said Rich Goetz, Co-Chair of O’Melveny’s Litigation Department. “He is a strong advocate in the courtroom with a winning record for pharmaceutical, healthcare, financial services, and Fortune 500 companies. His experience will further bolster our practice strengths in many areas.”

Sea has also conducted internal investigations for several financial institutions. He was part of the court-appointed counsel team to the Securities Investor Protection Act Trustee for the global liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, and he represented various individual foreign claimants in the largest civil forfeiture action brought under the United States Department of Justice’s Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative.

Sea is a founding member of “1844,” an association of about five dozen African American male attorneys that focuses on promoting collaboration, business development, and mentorship among attorneys of color in Big Law. He is also a member of the Metropolitan Black Bar Association, where he mentors college and law students who are interested in private practice. And Sea served as President of the Nigerian Lawyers Association from 2014 to 2016, where he promoted building strong, diverse communities in the U.S. and abroad.

“Nexus is a leader in promoting opportunities and equity for Black attorneys,” added Litigation Department Co-Chair Apalla Chopra. “His focus and hard work in pursuit of this cause align perfectly with our firm’s core values. It’s a pleasure to call him our partner.”

Sea is also at the forefront of the American Israeli Political Action Committee’s progressive outreach efforts (“AIPAC Connects”), recruiting and building professional communities in support of the US-Israel relationship.

Sea earned his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law where he served as Editor-in-Chief of Rutgers Race and The Law Review.
