O’Melveny Welcomes Top Korean Dealmakers, Strengthening Asia Cross-Border Capabilities

February 18, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SEOUL—February 18, 2021—O’Melveny announced today that one of Korea’s top cross-border M&A lawyers, Daniel Sae-Chin Kim, has joined the firm’s Seoul office as a partner. Kim will serve as Co-Representative of the office alongside partner Youngwook Shin and will work closely with Joseph Kim, firmwide Chair of O’Melveny’s Korea Practice.

Kim arrives at O’Melveny after serving as Head of Paul Hastings’ Korea Corporate Practice. His practice focuses on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity buyouts and investments, and international joint ventures, particularly outbound transactions for some of Korea’s largest companies. Another experienced lawyer, Jinkang Albert Nah, recently joined O’Melveny’s corporate practice in the Seoul office.

“Daniel is the ‘go to’ M&A lawyer for many of Korea’s best-known companies,” said O’Melveny Chair Bradley J. Butwin. “Over the last ten years, he has led some of the largest cross-border and outbound deals in Korea. His arrival significantly expands our offering for internationally active Korean companies, some of which are among our firm’s most important clients.”

Guided by its commitment to providing seamless international client service, O’Melveny was one of the first US law firms to establish an office in Seoul* after the opening of the Korean legal market in 2012. Since then, O’Melveny has consistently ranked among the most active international law firms in Korea, representing clients in industries as diverse as electronics, semiconductor, petrochemical, automotive, media, and pharmaceuticals.

For seven consecutive years, Daniel Kim has been ranked in Band 1 for Korea M&A by Chambers Global and Chambers Asia-Pacific and as a “Leading Lawyer” for M&A by Legal 500 Asia. He has led numerous high-value, Korea-outbound M&A transactions, including Samsung Electronics’ US$8 billion acquisition of Harman International—then the largest Korean outbound M&A transaction on record.

“We are delighted to welcome Daniel and Albert to our practice,” added Joseph Kim. “As Korean companies continue to pursue larger and more ambitious cross-border undertakings, our team is well-positioned to provide them with award-winning, sophisticated support in high-stakes litigation and, now, in M&A and investment transactions.”

Kim is admitted to practice in California and New York. Nah is admitted to practice law in New York. Both are registered as Foreign Legal Consultants in Korea and are fluent in Korean.
