Jeffrey Gordon Focuses on Complex Business Litigation, Governmental and Grand Jury Investigations, and Strategic Legal Counseling

WASHINGTON, DC—September 14, 2020—O’Melveny announced today that leading Washington, DC litigator Jeffrey Gordon has joined the firm as a partner in the General Litigation Practice. Gordon was previously a senior attorney in the litigation practice of a top 100 AmLaw firm.

An experienced litigator and trusted business adviser with a wide-ranging practice, Gordon focuses on complex litigation, compliance, investigations, and trial matters across several industries, including sports, healthcare, medical devices, life sciences, financial services, and technology. He has also spent significant time representing clients in cases involving alleged healthcare fraud, violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and the federal and state False Claims Acts.

Gordon arrives at O’Melveny at a time of unprecedented disruption for the sports industry, spurred by both the COVID-19 pandemic and the racial justice movement. With years of sports litigation experience and deep relationships with professional teams and media networks, Gordon will further strengthen O’Melveny’s acclaimed Sports Group.

“Jeff has worked on many high-profile sports litigation matters in recent years, and that is just one facet of his versatile practice,” said O’Melveny chair Bradley J. Butwin. “Jeff also embodies the values of collaboration, commitment to client service, and dedication to community that set O’Melveny apart. It’s a pleasure to welcome him to the firm.”

The addition of Gordon reflects O’Melveny’s focus on deepening the firm’s national bench for trial work while also recruiting and promoting outstanding diverse lawyers.

“As we continue to expand O’Melveny’s roster of top-notch litigation talent, Jeff’s broad spectrum of experience will be an immediate asset to our clients across an array of industries,” said O’Melveny Litigation Department co-chair Richard Goetz.

“O’Melveny has a well-earned reputation as a global litigation leader with an unparalleled commitment to client service and advocacy. I’m very excited to contribute to the firm’s impressive record of success,” said Gordon. “In these unprecedented times, solid legal guidance and tireless client service are more important than ever. I look forward to being a part of O’Melveny’s winning team.”

Throughout his legal career, Gordon has dedicated himself to mentoring lawyers of color and has devoted significant time to pro bono work. For more than two decades, he has represented tenants in Baltimore and Washington, DC, advocating for fair housing and tenants’ rights. He has also represented inmates in a variety of challenges to violations of their religious and civil rights. Gordon sits on the board of The First Tee of Greater Baltimore, a youth-development organization devoted to introducing the game of golf and its inherent core values to young people.

Gordon earned his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
