O’Melveny Wins “Litigation Matter of the Year” Award at GCR Dinner

Firm Honored for its Work on Behalf of Asiana Airlines

WASHINGTON, DC—April 11, 2018—O’Melveny was honored for its work representing Asiana Airlines in an air cargo action that was selected as “litigation matter of the year-cartel defense” at the Global Competition Review Awards.
The eighth annual event was held April 10, 2018, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, DC, drawing lawyers and economists from around the world. O’Melveny partner Ian Simmons, who led the team representing Asiana, accepted the award on the firm’s behalf.
O’Melveny has defended Asiana since 2013 in a relation to a claim brought by British Airways against it (and a number of other airlines) seeking a contribution and/or indemnity in the event that BA is held liable to the claimants in litigation over alleged price-fixing in the air-freight services market. The airlines have blocked two mass actions brought in the United Kingdom’s High Court since 2015 claiming damages in connection with the alleged price-fixing scheme among various airlines, including Asiana.
The wins for Asiana in the UK follow an earlier victory for the airline in the United States in a related class action. O’Melveny is one of the few firms who have represented the same client in both UK and US proceedings.
