Pensabene Named LMG Life Sciences Hatch-Waxman Litigator of the Year

NEW YORK—September 24, 2020—Lisa Barons Pensabene, head of O’Melveny’s Life Sciences Litigation practice, was named “Life Sciences Hatch-Waxman Litigator of the Year-Branded,” at LMG’s virtual awards ceremony, held last night.
LMG’s Life Sciences Awards are presented to firms, individuals, and companies “behind the most innovative and challenging Life Sciences work of the past year, as well as those driving the international market.”
Pensabene was recognized for outstanding, recent accomplishments in a number of areas, including leading the O’Melveny team that secured an important trial victory for Amgen in litigation involving the multiple myeloma cancer drug Kyprolis®. At stake were two different kinds of patents (compound and formulation) covering a near-blockbuster medicine. She is also leading the firm’s representation of ViiV Healthcare and Shionogi in litigation to enforce patents relating to their blockbuster drugs for the treatment of HIV, Tivicay®, Triumeq®, Juluca® and Dovato®. The outcomes of these high-stakes cases have the potential to shape the pharmaceutical industry for years to come.

Pensabene regularly handles high stakes patent litigation in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. A first chair trial lawyer, she has led more than twenty major pharmaceutical and chemical patent litigations, leading cases in bench and jury trials, arguing to the Federal Circuit, and leading briefing to the US Supreme Court.
