September 12, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN FRANCISCO—September 12, 2018—The San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved the appointment of O’Melveny partner Damali A. Taylor to the San Francisco Police Commission, which oversees the city’s police department. San Francisco Mayor London N. Breed nominated Taylor, along with Dion-Jay Brookter, deputy director of local nonprofit Young Community Developers, Inc.

Mayor Breed said in a statement that the appointments “will bring important perspectives to the Commission, rooted in their extensive experience with San Francisco’s diverse communities, as they work to strengthen our Police Department and institute important reforms.”

Taylor advises clients on white collar, securities, and civil litigation matters, as well as criminal, congressional, internal, and regulatory investigations. She is also an accomplished former federal prosecutor who served from 2011 to 2017 in the US Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of California as an Assistant US Attorney and Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime Strike Force Section. In her role, she focused on racketeering cases against large-scale organized crime enterprises and supervised all organized and violent crime cases investigated and charged in the Northern District of California. She received the FBI Director’s Award for her work in 2015.

Prior to that role, Taylor was an Assistant District Attorney in San Francisco from 2009 to 2011. During this time, she served in the Domestic Violence Unit, where she was responsible for handling and trying criminal cases including domestic violence, child endangerment, and weapons charges.

“I am honored to serve on the San Francisco Police Commission,” Taylor said. “I’ve spent much of my career fighting for the vulnerable and victimized. I hope to use my platform on the commission to continue that work by helping to rebuild and strengthen the important relationship between the community and the police.”
