A member of the firm’s Antitrust and Competition and Product Liability & Mass Torts Practice Groups, Patrick J. Jones represents clients in a broad range of litigation and investigatory matters, including antitrust litigation and regulatory investigations, product liability and consumer protection litigation, and false claims and white collar investigations. His experience spans a diverse spectrum of industries including digital currencies, financial services, aviation, defense contracting, healthcare, medical devices, telecommunications, real estate, insurance, and automobiles.

Patrick has represented clients at every stage of litigation. He has briefed and argued dispositive and pretrial motions in federal district court and several state courts; taken and defended depositions; supported the direct and cross-examination of witnesses at trial; and briefed and argued cases in support of clients in the US Courts of Appeals and several state courts of appeal. Patrick was a key member of the O’Melveny teams that won dismissal for clients in the first antitrust case involving the cryptocurrency industry, United American Corp. v. Bitmain, Inc.; won two successful antitrust trials in 2022, US Airways v. Sabre and AngioDynamics v. Bard; and defeated class certification and shot down a subsequent Rule 23(f) petition in North Brevard County Hospital v. C. R. Bard. Patrick is currently a member of the team that won dismissal for several clients in the sprawling, ongoing multi-district litigation In re RealPage Antitrust Litigation.

Patrick also maintains an active pro bono practice. He has briefed and argued a family law case before a state court of appeal; represented a client in a special education proceeding in which he successfully negotiated a favorable settlement prior to the administrative trial; and has partnered with civil rights organizations in several matters related to voting rights in Florida.

  • Member of the team that represents BH Management Services in In re RealPage Antitrust Litigation, a multi-district litigation involving claims that property management firms conspired to artificially inflate apartment rents by using and sharing information through a common revenue management software vendor.
  • Member of the trial team that won a complete defense verdict in Malkin v. Federal Insurance Company, an insurance dispute in the Central District of California involving the alleged settlement of a 1900s’ era mansion in Montecito, CA, following the largest wildfire in California history.
  • Member of team that represented C.R. Bard at trial in AngioDynamics v. Bard (N.D.N.Y), where the plaintiff sought to prove Bard had unlawfully tied its peripherially inserted central catheters to the innovative technology it invented to assist nurses during the insertion procedure. After a four week trial in 2022, the team secured a complete victory for Bard.
  • Member of team that represented American Airlines (as successor in interest to US Airways) in US Airways Inc v. Sabre (S.D.N.Y.), which culminated in a four week jury trial where the trial team secured a successful jury verdict against Sabre finding that Sabre illegally maintained its monopoly power in the Sabre distribution market. This landmark case is the first two-sided market case to be tried to a jury.
  • Member of team that represented American Airlines in breach of contract litigation against Sabre in Texas state court, including at a week-long temporary injunction hearing.
  • Member of team that represented Wells Fargo in several actions alleging collusion among traders of bonds issued by government sponsored enterprises. One of the principal drafters of several successful motions to dismiss.
  • Member of team that represented Bitcoin.com in United American Corp. v. Bitmain, Inc. et al. (S.D. Fla. 2018), the first antitrust case involving crypto currency. Played a key role in drafting multiple rounds of motions to dismiss, including the final joint motion to dismiss the court granted it with prejudice in 2021. United Am. Corp. v. Bitmain, Inc., 530 F. Supp. 3d 1241, 1249 (S.D. Fla. 2021).
  • Member of team that represented Samsung Bioepis in In re Humira (Adalimumab) Antitrust Litigation, the first “reverse-payment” litigation involving biologics and biosimilars. In June 2020, the district court granted in full defendants' motion to dismiss.
  • Member of trial team that represented Johnson & Johnson in action brought by the State of California alleging violations of California’s Unfair Competition and False Advertising Laws.
