Goldstein Co-Authors CSIS Report on Countering Adversary Threats to Democratic Institutions2월 19, 2018
O’Melveny associate Eric Goldstein served as contributing author of the February 2018 Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) report Countering Adversary Threats to Democratic Institutions. In the report, Goldstein and principal author Suzanne Spaulding examine Russia’s efforts to undermine fundamental democratic institutions and ways to counter such threats from Russia and other nations with similar aims.
Informed by a meeting of bipartisan experts that took place at CSIS in late spring of 2017, as well as a subsequent roundtable and other expert input, the report outlines the disruptive tactics Russia has used in the United States and highlights the role of technology in facilitating democratic disruption, including network intrusions and exploitation of social media.
“The bipartisan Experts Group that gathered at CSIS in the spring and winter of 2017 concluded that we need a whole-of-nation strategy to counter foreign adversary attacks on these fundamental institutions of democracy... What is needed is a national approach that pulls together governments, at all levels in the United States and with like-minded nations around the globe, along with civil society, academia, technology companies, and the public,” the authors write.
