O’Melveny Partner Mattie Hutton Recognized by Bloomberg Law as Top Lawyer Under 40

WASHINGTON, DC—July 27, 2023—O’Melveny partner Mattie Hutton has been recognized as one of 40 top young lawyers nationwide in Bloomberg Law’s third annual edition of “They’ve Got Next: The 40 Under 40.”
The special feature recognizes lawyers under 40 years of age across a wide range of practice areas “who took the reins on key client matters early in their careers, earning the confidence of more senior attorneys at their organizations, and raising the bar in their work on behalf of their clients and communities.”
Based in O’Melveny’s Washington, DC office, Hutton specializes in product liability, mass torts, class actions, and other complex civil litigation. She represents a range of clients in investigations and at various stages of litigation, including discovery, trial, and appeal.
Bloomberg Law lauded Hutton for her work as a key member of the O’Melveny teams “defending Johnson & Johnson in public nuisance opioid cases, including the team that took on the West Virginia attorney general’s public nuisance claims at trial in 2022.” Additionally, the publication noted Hutton’s role as appellate counsel for J&J in “the pelvic mesh litigation in the federal MDL and state courts.” In a Q&A, Hutton told Bloomberg Law: “I am proud of working at one of the best firms in the world, on major cases for the companies that embody American industry and innovation.”
Hutton also discussed her commitment to O’Melveny’s acclaimed Pro Bono Program. “I am proud of my pro bono work, especially with detained individuals. The absolute privilege of holding a law license is never clearer than when using it on behalf of someone whose liberty is at stake,” she said. In April, Hutton made her debut argument at the US Supreme Court in an immigration case, Pugin v. Garland.
