O’Melveny Partners Daniel Petrocelli and Anna Pletcher Named to Daily Journal’s 2023 “Top 100” List

LOS ANGELES—September 8, 2023—O'Melveny partners Daniel Petrocelli and Anna Pletcher have been named to the Daily Journal's 2023 list of “Top 100 Lawyers.” The special report is a “prestigious annual roundup of the best lawyers in California.”

Named to the Daily Journal’s “Top 100” list for the eleventh year in a row, Petrocelli represents clients in a wide variety of areas, including antitrust, competition, business torts, insurance, securities, employment law, entertainment, sports, media, and criminal defense. The publication recognized Petrocelli this year for advising an independent committee of First Republic Bank’s board of directors during the bank’s financial crisis, representing Marvel in a series of lawsuits involving copyright termination rights for several iconic Marvel characters, and representing The Walt Disney Company in its lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District to protect Disney’s First Amendment rights.

“I have the pleasure and privilege of practicing at a law firm that has a long and rich history of representing clients in the entertainment and media industries, among, of course, many, many others,” Petrocelli said. “And it's made for a fascinating practice.”

The Daily Journal recognized Pletcher for the “series of successes” she has garnered since joining O’Melveny four years ago, including her role as co-lead counsel representing former Pilgrim’s Pride CEO Jayson Penn in the unprecedented three criminal antitrust trials that garnered national media coverage. Penn, who was one of ten individuals indicted for an alleged seven-year industrywide conspiracy to fix prices and rig bids of broiler chicken products, was acquitted following the third trial after just over a day of deliberations.

“It was just a powerhouse team of incredibly talented lawyers from around the country, all of whom worked together seamlessly,” Pletcher said. “And we were able to leverage each other's strengths and fight back against this government case that never should have been charged. It took a lot of time.”
