O’Melveny’s Dallas Office and Associate Emma L. Jones Receive Pro Bono Service Awards from Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program

October 31, 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DALLAS—October 31, 2023—The Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP) has honored O’Melveny’s Dallas office and Associate Emma L. Jones for their commitment to pro bono work, with the Dallas office receiving the 2023 Gold Award for Pro Bono Service and Jones receiving the 2023 Outstanding Virtual Clinic Attorney Award.

The awards were presented on October 27.

O’Melveny’s Dallas-based lawyers dedicated more than 425 hours to pro bono work between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023. Jones, an associate in O’Melveny’s Restructuring Practice, has participated at least every other week in in-person and online Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program clinics since joining the firm in 2021, the year O’Melveny’s Dallas office opened.

“I’m really proud of our Dallas office,” said Dallas Partner Kristin Cope, Pro Bono Chair of O’Melveny’s Texas offices. “O’Melveny genuinely values public service, and I’m proud to see our Dallas lawyers pick up that mantle.”

“Pro bono work gives me an opportunity to really appreciate why I chose O’Melveny,” Jones said. “Being a counselor—listening to people and using my legal skills to help them—is one of the reasons I wanted to become a lawyer in the first place.”

The Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program is a joint pro bono program of the Dallas Bar Association and Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas. Its support staff, working with volunteer pro bono lawyers, serve low-income people who need help with benefits, employment issues, landlord-tenant matters, wills, driver’s license restoration, and eviction prevention. In the last year, a larger percentage of O’Melveny’s Dallas lawyers worked on DVAP pro bono efforts than any other law firm with an office of similar size.

O’Melveny’s award-winning pro bono program regularly takes on pressing issues, including housing, immigration, women’s rights, foster care, education, veterans affairs, racial justice, criminal justice reform, and voting rights. For additional information, visit our pro bono page.
