Bloomberg Law: Disney Goes After DeSantis With O’Melveny, WilmerHale Veterans

Walt Disney Co. has tapped O’Melveny to represent the company in its recently filed lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis accusing him of conducting a “targeted campaign of government retaliation.” Daniel Petrocelli, chair of O’Melveny's trial practice and a vice chair of the firm, and Jonathan Hacker, chair of the firm’s Supreme Court and appellate litigation practice, are serving as lead counsel for Disney. The lawsuit is the latest in an ongoing conflict between DeSantis and Disney, which began when the company made comments about a Florida education law. Disney stated in its complaint that “a targeted campaign of government retaliation—orchestrated at every step by Governor DeSantis as punishment for Disney’s protected speech—now threatens Disney’s business operations, jeopardizes its economic future in the region, and violates its constitutional rights.”
