Law360: Takeaways From DOJ’s Challenge To Big 5 Publishing Deal

The US Department of Justice filed an antitrust suit against Public Random House to block its US$2.175 billion purchase of Simon & Schuster over concerns that the deal will have an impact on authors and their work. The merger would combine two of the “Big Five” publishers in the nations, making them the largest one. The two companies said that they are going to fight the lawsuit and that the deal would benefit both authors and consumers.
