Law360: Disney Remains Victorious In Writer’s ‘Zootopia’ Rip-Off Case

California’s Second Appellate District affirmed a lower court’s decision granting summary judgement to Disney in a suit brought by a screenwriter who claimed that the 2016 animated film “Zootopia” was created using his ideas. “Esplanade’s access argument relies solely on speculation and conjecture arising from the fact that some of the individuals involved occasionally provided feedback on one another’s work,” the panel said. Disney is represented by Daniel M. Petrocelli, Drew E. Breuder, and Craig P. Bloom of O’Melveny & Myers LLP.
