Law360: Epic’s Bandcamp Won’t Have To Use Google Billing, For Now

Google and Epic Games reached a deal that will allow Bandcamp, an online record store app recently acquired by Epic, to use its own payment system on Android devices as opposed to Google’s Play Store payment system. According to the agreement, Bandcamp does not have to comply with Google’s June 1 mandate requiring apps that sell digital content to use Google Play Billing. Google, which is facing antitrust accusations by Epic over its Play Store, will receive “10% of all revenue from in-app transactions of digital goods and services in the Bandcamp app distributed through Google Play” if it wins the case against Epic. Google is represented by Daniel M. Petrocelli, Ian Simmons, Benjamin G. Bradshaw, and Stephen J. McIntyre of O’Melveny & Myers LLP.
