In 2021, O’Melveny & Myers LLP grew its gross revenue and profitability by about 10% and opened its first domestic offices in 20 years after expanding into the Austin and Dallas markets last June. O’Melveny chair Bradley Butwin said the firm’s litigators tried more than a dozen cases last year, one of them being a multi-month bench trial defending Johnson & Johnson against US$50 billion in public nuisance claims brought by California municipalities. Butwin also noted that O’Melveny has 50 trials or arbitrations scheduled for 2022, including its defense of Penguin Random House against the US Department of Justice’s attempt to block its proposed US$2.175 billion acquisition of Simon & Schuster.
