The Deal: Sierra Wireless Purchase Shows Semtech’s Ambitions in IoT

Semiconductor maker Semtech Corporation (SMTC) announced its US$1.2 billion purchase of Sierra Wireless Inc. (SWIR) on August 2. Semtech, which makes chips for consumer electronics, automotive, broadcast video, industrial companies, and the military, will pay US$31 per share in the all-cash transaction.
