FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK—DECEMBER 4, 2018—O’Melveny played a key role in bringing a long-awaited National Hockey League (NHL) team to Seattle as the firm represented Jerry Bruckheimer and several other investors in their winning application.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced this morning that the Seattle ownership group led by David Bonderman and Jerry Bruckheimer had been approved by the league’s Board of Governors to launch the 32nd NHL franchise in the Emerald City, with league play targeted to begin during the 2021-2022 season. The team will play its home games at KeyArena, which will undergo a US $800 million renovation pursuant to a deal between the City of Seattle and the Oak View Group. The name of the new team is being finalized.

“We are delighted to have advised our clients on their successful expansion application, and their quest to bring NHL hockey back to Seattle,” said Charles (Chuck) Baker, co-head of O’Melveny’s sports industry group. “We share the fans’ excitement about what the new team will mean for Seattle and the surrounding community.”

The O’Melveny team was led by Baker and included associates Vince Ferrito and Chris Anderson on M&A matters and Alex Roberts on tax matters.
