Law360 Names Brody and Robertson 2021 MVPs

October 5, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK–October 5, 2021–Law360 has honored O’Melveny partners Steve Brody and Mark W. Robertson as 2021 MVPs in their respective areas: Product Liability and Transportation.

According to Law360, the MVP list represents an “elite slate of attorneys” who have “distinguished themselves from their peers by securing hard earned successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters and record-breaking deals.” Law360 noted that this year’s MVPs were selected from a field of nearly 900 applicants.

Brody is co-chair of O’Melveny’s Product Liability & Mass Torts Practice and leads the practice’s Drug and Medical Device subgroup. He also works frequently with lawyers in the firm’s Consumer Class Actions, White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations, and Supreme Court and Appellate Practice Groups, and is co-chair of the firm’s Attorney General Investigations and Litigation Practice.

Brody is currently one of the lead national counsel for Johnson & Johnson in more than 3,000 opioid lawsuits pending across the country, and served as trial counsel for the company in the 2019 Oklahoma opioids trial and the recently-concluded trial in Orange County, California, against four municipalities. In his MVP profile, Brody told Law360 that working for clients like Johnson & Johnson is what most motivates him. “What I’m doing is ultimately going to allow them to devote more resources to their core mission: innovating and saving lives. This is what makes what I do worthwhile,” he said. “My proudest moments are knowing the success we have for clients lets them improve the lives of millions of Americans.”

Robertson is a partner in O’Melveny’s Labor & Employment and Aviation Groups with a specific focus on litigation and arbitration involving the Railway Labor Act. He is one of the nation’s top aviation labor and employment practitioners, and his past and current clients include virtually every US domestic airline.

In his MVP profile, Law360 noted that Robertson led American Airlines to a Second Circuit victory thwarting a proposed class action over pilot seniority list benefits. Robertson described the litigation as a “20-year legal odyssey.” He said, “If the plaintiffs had been successful… it would have disrupted the airline and the pilots’ lives to a significant degree.”
