NYC Outward Bound Schools Honor Miller at 2019 Gala

NEW YORK—May 24, 2019—O’Melveny partner Pamela Miller and her husband Gifford Miller were recently honored by NYC Outward Bound Schools at its 2019 Gala. The student-led event raised $1.4 million for the organization, which runs a network of public schools throughout the five boroughs.

Miller and her husband are longtime and active supporters of NYC Outward Bound, which applies the educational philosophy of Outward Bound’s experience-based outdoor learning & leadership programs to New York’s public schools, particularly those in underserved communities. The approach combines rigorous learning with an emphasis on community and character.

Two years ago, Miller spearheaded a program between O’Melveny and New York City Outward Bound in which O’Melveny attorneys and staff serve as mentors and writing coaches to juniors and seniors. Now in its third year, the program has served dozens of Outward Bound students. In addition, O’Melveny partner Allen Burton serves an NYC Outward Bound board member and the firm hosts the organization’s board meetings.

Miller thanked O’Melveny for its support of NYC Outward Bound, noting the firm’s “long history of commitment to public education.”

“It was no surprise to me when I asked for support for NYC Outward Bound that my firm would rise to the occasion,” Miller said. “But I could never have imagined how much they would do that.”

At O’Melveny, Miller represents banks and financial institutions in litigation relating to bank liability, fraud, bankruptcy, regulatory improprieties. She is also a member of O’Melveny’s Policy Committee, and the firm’s Management Team, which develops and implements O’Melveny’s strategic plans. In 2018, Crain’s New York Business recognized Pam as a “trailblazer…who found multiple paths to excellence” in its inaugural list of Leading Women Lawyers in New York City.
