O’Melveny Continues Expansion of Energy Practice with Renowned Energy Regulatory Lawyer Andrew B. Young

September 7, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, DC—September 7, 2022—O’Melveny announced today that acclaimed energy regulatory lawyer Andrew B. Young has joined the firm’s Washington, DC office as a partner in its Project Development & Real Estate Practice Group and Energy Industry Group.

Recognized as one of the nation’s top energy and regulatory lawyers by The Legal 500, Young comes to O’Melveny from the Washington, DC office of DLA Piper, where he served as a member of that firm’s Energy and Natural Resources Group. He advises the full spectrum of energy market participants—investors, lenders, developers, energy producers, and commercial and industrial consumers—on acquisitions, tax-equity investments, financings, restructurings, commercial agreements, wholesale energy market development, rate-related matters, administrative hearings, trial and appellate litigation, and state and federal regulatory issues.

Young’s addition further strengthens O’Melveny’s capabilities in the energy regulatory arena as the firm continues its growth in the energy sector. In the past year, O’Melveny has added nearly 20 energy-focused lateral partners, many of them resident in the firm’s trio of newly launched Texas offices: Austin, Dallas, and Houston.

Young also bolsters O’Melveny’s market-leading renewable energy practice by bringing significant experience in solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, hydroelectric, battery storage, hydrogen fuel cells, and other renewable projects. Young also represents clients in matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the U.S. Department of Energy, state public utility commissions, and federal district and appellate courts.

A leader in the national energy bar, Young has been named for seven consecutive years to Best Lawyers in America’s list of “Best Attorneys in Energy Law.” He has served for many years as a member of the Energy Bar Association and has also served in various leadership positions—including as president and a member of the board—of the Foundation of the Energy Law Journal.

“Andrew joins us at an opportune moment. Few industries are regulated as tightly—or evolving as quickly—as the energy sector,” said O’Melveny Chair Bradley J. Butwin. “Andrew offers our conventional and renewable energy clients valuable insight into an international market shaped by geopolitical uncertainty, dramatic legislative and regulatory changes, and ambitious investment programs.”

“There has never been a more exciting time to be an energy lawyer,” Young said. “I’ve followed the impressive growth of O’Melveny’s energy practice, and I’m delighted to join my new colleagues—many of whom I’ve worked with over the years—in helping our shared domestic and international clients navigate this vital and rapidly changing industry.”

Young earned his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School and his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Virginia.
