O’Melveny Partner John Rapisardi Named a 2022 MVP by Law360

NEW YORK—September 14, 2022—O’Melveny partner John Rapisardi has been named to Law360’s annual list of MVPs, which recognizes the lawyers who have “distinguished themselves from their peers by securing hard-earned successes in high-stakes litigation, complex global matters and record-breaking deals."
Law360 honored Rapisardi for his work representing the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in the largest municipal restructuring in U.S. history, a deal that involved a US$120 billion bankruptcy plan that was approved by U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain in January.
"I've been in the restructuring business for 40 years," Rapisardi said. "And in the context of Chapter 11 restructurings, there's a predictable start, middle and finish. What was different about Puerto Rico was there were so many uncertain elements that were thrown into the mix."
Rapisardi led a cross-practice group team of O’Melveny lawyers who faced a multitude of issues including numerous leadership transitions, a stagnant economy, the COVID-19 pandemic, and an insolvent pension system.
"When you look at your most complex restructurings on record, they pale in comparison to the complexities that we had to face and successfully overcome," Rapisardi said.
