Jonathan Schneller brings a strategic eye to complex litigation, focusing on cases that call for critical analysis and novel theories. Jonathan’s briefs have been described in the media as “forceful, cogent,” and “passionately written.” He is currently coordinating legal and appellate strategy in courts across the country for a major multi-jurisdiction mass tort case. Jonathan also has extensive experience handling litigation and investigations by state Attorneys General.

Some of Jonathan’s current and recent matters include:

  • Representing an insurer against a false-claims lawsuit by the US Department of Justice involving the interpretation of complex federal regulations.
  • Representing a major utility in mass-tort litigation by individual, business, and governmental plaintiffs.
  • Representing an auto manufacturer in Attorney General investigations and personal-injury actions.
  • Representing a technology company in a class-action lawsuit brought on behalf of school districts.
  • Representing a financial services company in a privacy class action.

Before rejoining O’Melveny, Jonathan served as a Deputy Federal Public Defender in Los Angeles. Specializing in appeals, he repeatedly beat the odds, winning new trials for his clients or vindicating them altogether—in the face of nationwide reversal rates for federal criminal convictions in the single digits. In his active pro bono practice at O’Melveny, he has crafted arguments on voting rights, Social Security, and immigration cases, as well as authored an amicus brief in the Supreme Court’s landmark same-sex marriage decision, Obergefell v. Hodges.
