The seemingly sudden ubiquity of AI—from reading x-rays and detecting credit card fraud to powering intelligent cars and doling out investment advice—has left some firms flat-footed. But not O’Melveny. AI is not some alien, inscrutable force, and while the legal implications of AI are complicated and vast, they are not unfamiliar to a firm that has been there from the outset of the technology.

From helping get AI startups off the ground and addressing IP, data privacy, consumer protection, product liability, and antitrust concerns to assessing risks and anticipating regulations, O’Melveny has counseled clients on, among other issues, facial recognition and biometrics, cybersecurity and autonomous cars, and the effect of AI on employment practices. As generative AI blooms—scaring some, exciting others, and scaring and exciting most—O’Melveny will be there for its clients, as it always has, to help them grab hold of the technology before it grabs hold of them.
