O’Melveny Partners Molly Lens, Leah Godesky, and Matthew Syrkin Named to The Hollywood Reporter’s 2024 “Power Lawyers” List

LOS ANGELES—June 13 2024— The Hollywood Reporter has named O’Melveny partners Molly Lens, Leah Godesky, and Matthew Syrkin to its prestigious 2024 “Power Lawyers” list.
The special report spotlights the “100 most influential attorneys in the entertainment industry.”
Molly Lens, co-head of O’Melveny’s Entertainment, Sports and Media Group, was honored as a “Power Lawyer” for the third consecutive year. The Hollywood Reporter noted that Lens led an O’Melveny team that successfully resolved a series of copyright termination disputes for Marvel involving the rights to various iconic characters, including Spider-Man and Iron Man. Lens is also serving as lead counsel defending Paramount Pictures in a copyright infringement lawsuit over the billion-dollar Oscar-nominated blockbuster film Top Gun: Maverick.
The Hollywood Reporter’s profile of Leah Godesky highlighted her role as co-lead counsel representing Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Kesha in a defamation lawsuit brought by “Dr. Luke,” the producer she accused of sexual misconduct. Godesky and her O’Melveny team secured a series of key pre-trial appellate wins at the New York Court of Appeals, which led to the matter’s conclusion with a confidential settlement. While “winning jury trials is as good as it gets … sometimes, the best outcome is avoiding the trial,” Godesky said.
Matthew Syrkin, co-chair of O’Melveny’s MediaTech Group, was recognized for representing MSG Entertainment in the development of the ”futuristic” tech core to the “Sphere” entertainment venues, including the “game-changing Las Vegas theater christened by U2.” Syrkin also structured and negotiated deals for the Comcast and Paramount Global streaming service “SkyShowtime” essential to its launch into 22 different territories across Europe. And The Hollywood Reporter noted Syrkin’s “A-list culture-entertainment-tech roster” of clients and fluency in foreign languages.
