The Texas Lawbook: Three Law Firms, Extraordinary Growth — The LA Connection
June 12, 2023
O’Melveny & Myers LLP is one of five law firms that grew their Texas revenues by US$50 million or more in 2022, and three of the five were founded or headquartered in Los Angeles. “We are focused on being full service for all of our clients’ needs in Texas,” said Chrissy Metcalf, managing partner of O’Melveny’s Dallas office. O’Melveny, which was featured on the latest Lawbook 50 revenue ranking, opened offices in Austin and Dallas in 2021, and Houston in 2022. “We didn’t want to join a law firm that was just putting a toe in the water in Texas,” O’Melveny partner Tim Durst said. “We wanted to know the firm had a commitment. We are going to add more lateral partners in 2023.” O’Melveny M&A partner Whit Roberts said that “firm leaders are thrilled at how quickly we have grown in Texas ... By any measure, 2022 was a fantastic year for us. The firm wants us to keep going, to add more lawyers in Texas.” Since expanding into Texas, O’Melveny has hired bankruptcy partner Lou Strubeck, private equity partner Garrett Johnston, energy transactions partner Ryan Sears, and crypto and cyber law expert Sid Mody, among others.
