O’Melveny Partners Darin Snyder and Ryan Yagura Named 2023 “Top Intellectual Property Lawyers” by the Daily Journal

LOS ANGELES—May 17, 2023—O’Melveny partners Darin Snyder and Ryan Yagura have been named to the Daily Journal’s 2023 list of “Top Intellectual Property Lawyers,” which recognizes the top intellectual property and patent litigation attorneys practicing in California.
The Daily Journal hailed Snyder for his work defending three related patent cases that AGIS filed against Google, Waze, and Samsung, asserting a total of six patents against more than 50 Google products and services, and against hundreds of Samsung products and services. The Federal Circuit granted a request for a writ of mandamus to transfer all three cases from the Western District of Texas to the Northern District of California, vacating the trial dates.
“I think it’s noteworthy because we’ve made some law in the Federal Circuit on the proper standards for directions to transfer to the proper venue,” Snyder said.
The Daily Journal lauded Yagura, who serves as Chair of O’Melveny’s Intellectual Property and Technology Practice, for leading an O’Melveny team that scored an important victory for Hyundai in the Federal Circuit, which issued a writ of mandamus finding venue improper in the Western District of Texas and compelled the court to dismiss or transfer the case to Central District of California. The appellate decision provides important new guidance regarding venue and agency.
“The Federal Circuit’s mandate to transfer the case is important because it forges an area of law that says, if Company A does business through Company B, and Company B is sufficiently independent, then a plaintiff cannot establish venue over Company A,” Yagura said.
