December 10, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CENTURY CITY—December 10, 2020—O’Melveny Century City partners Bruce Tobey, Amy Siegel, Sean Monroe, and Silvia Vannini have been named to Variety’s 2020 Dealmakers Impact Report. The special feature highlights the “top negotiators who have kept Hollywood humming” through the coronavirus pandemic.

Variety has featured O’Melveny partners in its report every year for more than a decade.

Variety recognized the O’Melveny team for their combined entertainment successes in 2020. Among other achievements, the publication reported, the “Century City-based quartet advised ViacomCBS in its 49% acquisition of Miramax; NBCUniversal and Warner for force majeure/return to work strategies; and, separately, Bron Studios.”

Reflecting on how the pandemic will change the industry, Siegel told Variety she thinks “there will be a greater appetite for strategic partnerships and cooperation to share some of the new risks and costs.”

As for what Variety described as the “streaming revolution,” Tobey observed: “The media companies are all having to take a hard look at reviewing and revamping their business models as they try to determine what the consumers will pay for and how much they are willing to pay.”

Tobey is chair of O’Melveny’s Entertainment, Sports and Media transactional practice. His practice covers all aspects of production, distribution, financing, and licensing of feature film and television productions, as well as digital media. He also provides strategic and operational advice to investors and companies in both traditional and new media. Tobey is the former Chief Operating Officer of CBS Films and a former Executive Vice President at Paramount Pictures Corp.

Siegel, managing partner of O’Melveny’s Century City office, represents motion picture studios, television networks, distribution and production companies, sports organizations, and other media clients. Siegel focuses her practice primarily on complex commercial licensing arrangements, with expertise in the use of intellectual property rights in connection with traditional and digital means of exploitation, theme parks and other location-based entertainment venues, as well as sports and other live events. She also advises clients on the creation of strategic alliances.

Monroe specializes in complex mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, new company formations, distribution and licensing arrangements, and corporate finance transactions in the entertainment, sports and media, and other industries. Monroe also advises clients regarding venture capital and early-stage formation and investment transactions, and executive employment, equity, and compensation arrangements.

Vannini advises public and private companies on mergers and acquisitions, securities, and general corporate matters, including corporate governance, both in and out of the entertainment industry. She regularly represents private equity funds, domestic and foreign companies, motion picture studios, television networks and entrepreneurial clients on a wide range of corporate transactions.
