O'Melveny Partners Daniel Petrocelli and Darin Snyder Named to Daily Journal's 2022 "Top 100 Lawyers" List

LOS ANGELES—September 21, 2022—O'Melveny partners Daniel Petrocelli and Darin Snyder have been named to the Daily Journal's 2022 list of "Top 100 Lawyers." The special report "celebrates California attorneys doing cutting-edge legal work."
This is the tenth consecutive year that the Daily Journal has named Petrocelli to the "Top 100" list, noting that he is "often at the center of major legal events." The publication recognized Petrocelli this year for defending Penguin Random House LLC against the U.S. Department of Justice's antitrust case seeking to block the publisher's proposed US$2.2 billion acquisition of Simon & Schuster Inc. The Daily Journal also noted Petrocelli's work as lead trial counsel representing rapper Travis Scott in more than 500 lawsuits stemming from the 2021 Astroworld Music Festival in Houston.
"I always wanted to be able to maintain a general litigation trial practice, and I'm proud to have accomplished that goal in a world of uber-specialization," Petrocelli said. "The different industries and issues you confront are all stimulating in their own right."
The Daily Journal recognized Snyder, who serves as O’Melveny's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion partner, for his role as the firm's coordinating partner for Google. In October 2021, Snyder and an O'Melveny team successfully defended the tech giant against patent infringement claims brought by Profectus Technology over Google's Nest Hub smart picture frame in one of the first patent jury trials before Judge Albright in the Western District of Texas. Recently, Snyder and an O'Melveny team secured the transfer of three related patent cases against Google, Waze, and Samsung to the Northern District of California after invaliding many of the claims through two IPR proceedings.
"It was a big development to get 'em out of the Eastern District of Texas, literally on the eve of trial," Snyder said. "The district has a well-deserved reputation for being plaintiff friendly, especially against big corporations. The Northern District of California is much more tech savvy and evenhanded."
